BRITANNIA ROW, SW6

Converting a historic recording studio

Orchestrate were instructed to convert an historic recording studio into two flats on Wandsworth Bridge Road in Fulham.

The client wanted to keep the industrial and rich history of the building to come through in the final product and keep the buildings as quiet as possible despite being on the main road.

The building was used for servicing taxis before it was used as a recording studio so we had to deal with and treat contaminated ground and insert damp proofing products into the floors and walls of the property.

The property was stripped out and the original openings between floor relocated to allow for a new central staircase and communal entrance.

“Ross Malone and his team were contracted to convert an industrial building in Fulham to 2 residential apartments. The project was complex and required very detailed knowledge and attention to all trades and skills. Their pricing was very competitive but standards were never compromised and the work was completed to a very high standard. Ross was always available and prompt with his response to any communication. He was very sympathetic and helpful to aesthetic requirements and his willingness to operate beyond the remit of the project helped greatly to alleviate potential stressful situations. The project finished on budget and on time which has certainly not been my experience in the past. I have no hesitation in recommending Ross and his team.”

Expertise

  • Structural work
  • Bathroom fitting
  • Polished concrete
  • Cast concrete staircase
  • Air conditioning and HVAC
  • Kitchen fitting
  • Plastering and painting
  • Electrics and plumbing
  • Carpentry

The existing cast concrete floors were adapted to suit the new layout and acoustic treatment put into the floors and ceilings to minimise noise transfer between units.

All existing wall coverings were removed back to brick and the substructure sandblasted and sealed. All services were delivered through exposed pipe runs, galvanized trunking and ducts and wire trays to retain the industrial feel of the building.

“A project we’re all proud of. We worked with the building rather than ripping out the history.”

Ross Malone, Bloom

The original crittall windows were secondary glazed from the inside and heat recovery and air conditioning installed throughout all units.

The floors were polished and the property painted as required to retain the industrial feel.

An award winning project

A unique and sensitive conversion creating two beautiful properties that perform how new builds should whilst not over developing the original building and manage to capture the history that the building offers.  The project has won various prizes and been featured in many magazine articles.
